AT&T offers DSL Internet services ranging from $20 to $35 per month. Their DSL speeds are comparible to cable speeds but they do require an active phone line (not everyone has a "landline" anymore). Click the Read More link to get more information and to read our review and view the discounts.

What you need to know

Equipment
You'll need to buy a DSL modem in order to use DSL service. A DSL Modem is available from AT&T for $49.95 plus $12.95 for shipping. As with cable modems, you can buy a DSL modem from a retailer like Best Buy or Frys. The AT&T modem includes a wireless router built in.

Service Areas
Be sure to check your area for available Internet packages.  AT&T is upgrading their network to offer higher speeds throughout the county.  This will impact access to certain AT&T rates and services.  See what's available in your area by visiting the AT&T website: http://www.att.com/dsl

Contract

AT&T often makes special deals available but, as with cel phones, you usually have to sign a 12-24 month contact. Be aware of this if you are going to sign up for DSL with AT&T or anyone else. There are usually penalty charges if service is stopped within the contract term. Contracts are also put into place if you recieve DSL service without already having a phone line.

Special Offer
AT&T is offering a "New to DSL" plan for $14.95/month for a limited time. This is a pretty good price for broadband but be aware that you may be obligated to purchase AT&T phone service and sign up for a 24-month contract.

Credit Check
AT&T does check credit for new Internet and phone service. Applicants whose credit is low or "bad" may be asked to submit a credit/debit card to be automatically charged on a monthly basis.

After a few years with various speeds from AT&T, I decided to get out of their 12 month obligatory contract again mindnet, and switched to DSL Extreme.com. I am much more satisfied with the personal service they provide. I also am thrilled with the fact that I no longer have to talk to an employee who is on commission that wants to talk you into other more expensive services. Currently, I get a 3 GB speed. @ $23/mo. no contract. You can usually get what you want when you just ask for it!

Wished I could get out of this as well and have a higher, better, FASTER speed to download music and send/receive photos.smilies/grin.gif
Tired of this waiting all day and night just to get somewhere online, or it freezess in the middle of the night while your on an IMPORTANT im to a friend.....it's really frustrating.....next thing I know it's daylight outside, which infuriates me to no end.smilies/angry.gif
SO, I just leave the computer on at all time, turn off monitor, then sit down and answer or view emails without waiting all the time.smilies/wink.gif

I first had problems with getting disconnected and then with low speed, but after numerous call with tech the problem turned out to be the cheap box they gave me at first. The new one works grat and they even gave me free wifi for all the trouble. Keep calling and they will finally get it right.
