How To Join

The San Diego Broadband Initiative is a collection of nonprofit agencies working together to provide low-income families with access to technology and technical services. As the program grows, additional partners will be needed. The following are the requirements and considerations partners should review if interested in being a part of the San Diego Broadband Initiative.

Partner Types

  • Service Partner - nonprofit, school, or government agency providing services to low-income families
  • Business Partner - for-profit businesses offering computer hardware, software, Internet, or related products and services
  • Education Partner - nonprofit, school, or government agency providing educational materials, review, or related services
  • Supporter - any agency providing technical, financial, or in-kind support to the program

Minimum Requirements

  • A program partner can be a for-profit business, 501c3 nonprofit, school, or government agency
  • Business Partners offering products or services to program participants must extend discounts to program participants that are greater than those offered to the general public
  • Service Partners must have existing methods and abilities to recruit, train, and provide computers and services to low-income families
  • Service Partners must already be providing families with training of some kind. The training does not have to be technical.
  • Audited financials must be available upon reqest
  • Service Partnters must have a Board of Directors

Considerations for Service Partners

  • Must have the ability to identify and recruit qualified families
  • Must provide participating families with training, technology, and ongoing support and services that encompass not only the technology itself but also the best applications and uses of it.
  • Should have an existing training facility equipped with computers and Internet access
  • Must be able to distribute at least 25 computers per year

Reporting

If a partner receives funding for the program through SDFF, the partner must provide SDFF with quarterly reports. The reports may require, but may not be limited to:

  • The type and amount of training provided
  • Number of families served
  • Value of labor required to provide services
  • Program outcomes such as improved job skills

How To Join

If your organization is interested in becoming an SDBI partner, please write a letter of interest with information regarding the following:

  • Company or organization background (if a nonprofit, include your mission)
  • Products and/or services you offer
  • Community you serve, including demographics, geographic area, and county district
  • Your current efforts to bring technology to the community
  • For Service Partners,a description of the training you currently provide
  • The role you would like to have in the program
  • For Service Partners, the number of computers you would like to distribute annually
